Daytime Shinny
Skater Eligibility
Skate Oakville shinny ice is available to eligible Skate Oakville members in good standing.
To participate in shinny sessions, skaters must:

Maintain a current Skate Oakville membership and Skate Canada membership.

Be actively participating in Skate Oakville programming, including applicable evening, weekend and/or dryland programming.

Register and pay for each shinny session in advance.

Comply with all Skate Oakville policies and the Skate Oakville Code of Conduct.

Take skating lessons only from coaches who are contracted with Skate Oakville.

Provide their own music, where applicable.
Adult skaters and skaters participating in designated Skate Oakville competitive elite programs may be exempt from the programming participation requirement.
Shinny is intended to supplement a skater's participation in Skate Oakville programming and is not intended to be used as a stand-alone skating option, except where an approved exemption applies. Skaters who do not meet the applicable eligibility requirements will not be permitted to participate in shinny sessions. Failure to comply with these requirements may result in the suspension or revocation of shinny privileges and/or Skate Oakville membership.
Coach Eligibility
Skate Oakville shinny ice is available to coaches contracted with Skate Oakville.
Coaches participating in shinny must:

Ensure that all skaters they are coaching are eligible for Skate Oakville members.

Ensure that skaters are registered and have paid for the applicable shinny session.

Comply with all Skate Oakville policies and the Skate Oakville Code of Conduct.

Ensure any Skate Oakville music resources or equipment used during the session are returned appropriately.
Coaches who do not comply with these requirements will not be permitted to participate in shinny sessions and may be subject to suspension or termination of their Skate Oakville contract.
Special Circumstances
Requests for access to shinny by individuals who do not meet the standard eligibility requirements must receive prior approval from Skate Oakville.
Requests must be submitted in writing at least 48 hours before the requested session to: Mark Bradshaw, Skating Director mark@skateoakville.ca
Approval is at the discretion of Skate Oakville and must be received before attending the session.
Shinny Registration & Compliance
All skaters must be registered and paid for the shinny session they are attending.
Skate Oakville will conduct random spot checks throughout the day to ensure compliance with registration and eligibility requirements.
Non-Registration
A skater found participating in a shinny session without having registered and paid will be invoiced at the applicable penalty rate for that session.
For shinny pass holders, failure to register for an individual session will result in the applicable penalty being invoiced for that session.
Continued non-compliance may result in additional penalties and/or the suspension or revocation of shinny privileges.
Ongoing non-compliance
Continued failure to register will result in further penalties:

After 3 infractions: session fee increases to $25.75

After 6 infractions: session fee increases to $35.75
-
After 9 infractions: shinny privileges will be revoked
Shinny Ice Categories
Freeskate Shinny
Available to skaters with a current Skate Canada membership who are at the STARSkate/Comp 1 level or higher and who meet the applicable Skate Oakville shinny eligibility requirements.
Comp, Elite, Dance Shinny
Available only to skaters invited into the applicable Skate Oakville programs.
Comp Shinny
- Comp 2 and CompSTAR skaters are eligible for the designated morning 8:00 a.m. Comp Freeskate Shinny session.
- Comp 2 skaters wishing to skate during afternoon shinny may use the designated Freeskate Shinny sessions.
- Comp 3 and Elite skaters are eligible for designated morning and afternoon Comp Freeskate Shinny sessions.
- All skaters must continue to comply with Skate Oakville's shinny registration and conduct requirements.
SKATE OAKVILLE SHINNY ICE

Freeskate Shinny - is available to skaters with a current Skate Canada membership and are at the STARSkate level or higher. Must abide by shinny expectations.
Comp, Dance, and Elite shinny - are only available to skaters invited into those programs.
Comp Free Skate Shinny - Comp 2 and CompSTAR skaters are invited out on the morning 8:00 am Comp Free Skate Shinny Ice ONLY. Comp 2 skaters wishing to skate in the afternoons are invited to use the free skate shinny ice.
Comp 3 & elite Skaters qualify to use morning and afternoon Comp Free Skate Shinny Ice Times.
