Competitive Free Skate Program Details
Assessment policies:

The skater reaches the minimum published standards of a session.

Age to Level expectations. Age will be a determining factor.

Number of years in the group.

Skating Director & Competitive Singles Director reserve the right to determine the outcome of skater's level and placement, and we work with our coaches on exceptions.

If a skater removes themself for any reason, they will need to reapply.
Requirements, Terms and Time Periods, once a skater has achieved a new level:

After achieving a level, skaters have 2 years or the age limit, to obtain the requirements.

If it is determined they are not on track, coaches can request a time extension.

If it is deemed, they are not on the competitive pathway for the club, skaters will be asked to follow the STAR pathway.

Skaters can be reassessed if they match the standards in the future.
Dryland Training:

Classes will be designed under the direction of Meagan Duhamel. World Champion and Olympic medalist, Meagan combines her knowledge, passion and experience to create a comprehensive dryland training to the competitive program. Activities will include general fitness, strength and condition, flexibility, dance, skipping and other classes.

Participation is mandatory.
PreCOMPETITIVE PROGRAM
The PreComp Program is offered 3 days per week. Program sessions include on and off ice instruction. All sessions will be group coached by members of our competitive coaching team. Dryland classes will include general fitness, off ice jumps and other activities that will enhance the skater's training. Besides these training days, skaters are expected to be participating in other sessions to complement their development. For information on when the on ice & dryland classes are, please see the club schedule.
Entry Requirements: Under 8 years old from Canskate.
Once skaters are promoted from Canskate to PreComp, skaters have 2 years to obtain the requirements for Comp 1. If it is determined they are not on track (for the Podium pathway), they will be asked to join another club program.
Commitment: Choice of 2 days a week, with dryland if it is offered that day: Tuesday (on ice + dryland training), Thursday (on ice + dryland training), Saturday (on ice).
Programming: 50 min group session, dryland classes after (2 times a week). Dryland classes consist of basic balance and shapes.
Skaters must not have a private coach
COMPETITIVE 1 PROGRAM
The Comp 1 Program is offered 3 days per week. Program sessions include on and off ice instruction. All sessions will be group coached by members of our competitive coaching team. Dryland classes will include general fitness, off ice jumps and other activities that will enhance the skater's training. Besides these training days, skaters are expected to be participating in other sessions to complement their development. Entry Requirements: Under 9 years old. Passed Stage 6.
Once a skater is promoted to Comp 1, skaters have 2 years to obtain the requirements. If it is determined they are not on track (for the Podium Pathway), coaches can request a time extension, or they will be asked to join another club program.
Commitment: Choice of 2 days a week, with dryland if it is offered that day: Tuesday (On Ice + dryland training), Thursday (on ice + dryland training), Saturday (on ice) with an extra 30 minute private coaching time.
Programming: 50 min group sessions, dryland classes after (2 times a week).Dryland training is mandatory along with additional training recommended by the coach.
To be eligible for competitive programs, skaters must have a Skate Oakville coach.
COMPETITIVE 2 PROGRAM
Skaters in this program will participate in at least 2 - Comp 2 program (packages) per week, and the dryland program. On ice classes may include group lesson time as well as individual skating time for private lessons and program run-throughs. For information on when on ice & dryland classes are, please see the club schedule.
Entry Requirements: Under 11 years old. Single axel & 1 double jump. Rotational speed in backspin and knowledge of all difficult turns.
Once a skater is promoted to Comp 2 skaters have 2 years to obtain the requirements. If it is determined they are not on track (with the Podium Pathway), coaches can request a time extension, or they will be asked to join another club program.
Commitment: 3 days a week (full week programming/5 weeks in summer daytime programming), with dryland training provided by the club. Dryland training is mandatory along with additional training recommended by the coach.
Programming: 50 - 60 min freeskate plus groups (when offered), a stand-alone Friday Dryland Jump Class; all offered over 5 days a week.
To be eligible for competitive programs, skaters must have a Skate Oakville coach.
COMPETITIVE 3 PROGRAM
Skaters in this program will participate in a minimum of 2 - Comp 3 programs (packages) per week, which include on ice and dryland classes, as well as additional sessions to complement the training requirements at this level. On ice classes may include group lesson time as well as individual skating time for private lessons and program run throughs.
Entry Requirements: Under 13 years old. 4-5 consistent and clean double jumps. Must be competing in pre-juvenile/juvenile or higher. Rotational speed in a backspin, can perform all clean difficult turns. Once a skater is promoted, skaters have 2 years to obtain a double axel.
If it is determined they are not on track (with the Podium Pathway), coaches can request a time extension, or they will be asked to join another club program.
Commitment: 5-6 days a week (full week programming/6 weeks in summer daytime programming), with dryland training provided by the club. Dryland training is mandatory along with additional training recommended by the coach. Time off and breaks will be organized by the coach.
To be eligible for competitive programs, skaters must have a Skate Oakville coach.
COMPETITIVE 4 PROGRAM
Skaters in this program will participate in a minimum of 2 - Comp 4 Programs (packages) per week, which include on ice and dryland classes, as well as additional sessions to complement the training requirements at this level. On ice classes may include group lesson time as well as individual skating time for private lessons and program run throughs.
Entry Requirements: Double axel and working on triples. Must be competing in Pre-Novice to Senior.
Commitment: 5-6 days a week (7-8 weeks of summer training), with dryland training provided by the club. Time off and breaks will be organized by the coach. Dryland training is mandatory along with additional training recommended by the coach.
Programming is very dependent on level and age.
To be eligible for competitive programs, skaters must have a Skate Oakville coach.
Fees, Payments and Missed Classes Policies
Fees
Competitive fees are based on the length of the session, how many weeks the session runs, and whether or not any coaching is included on the session, or if off ice training is included in the package.
Mandatory Membership Fees
- The Skate Canada (SC) Fee of $63 is only charged once per year (Sep 1 to Aug 31) and pays for your SC membership and insurance. We forward this fee on to SC on your behalf. The SC Fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.
- The Skate Oakville membership fee of $40 is only charged once per year (Sep 1 to Aug 31) and entitles you to skating on Skate Oakville sessions.
Payments
Full payment of mandatory membership fees is required at time of registration. Session fees may be split into monthly installments. Installment option is available for Spring/Summer as well.
Refunds
- Refund requests must be done by email to the Skate Oakville office (office@skateoakville.ca). We do not accept changes or withdrawals in person or over the phone.
- The $63 Skate Canada fees are non-refundable for any reason.
- The $40 Skate Oakville fee is not refundable after the start of the season.
Missed Classes
We use the same policy for missed classes as the Town of Oakville. "Participants are to attend all classes as scheduled for the program in which they are registered. In the event that a participant is unable to attend a scheduled class(es), make-up classes, refunds, or credits for the missed class(es) will not be provided."
