Competitive Levels and Criteria
The Competitive Singles programs are by invitation only. Should you be interested in pursuing competitive skating, please speak to your coach directly. Skaters from outside our club will likely need to arrange a meeting before being offered a spot in the program, please email office@skateoakville.ca and we will forward this on to the appropriate coach. Skaters will participate in specific training days each week. Skaters must be invited to the next level of programming before being able to register. Below you can find the qualifications for the 2024-2025 Fall and Winter seasons.
To be eligible for competitive programs, skaters must have a Skate Oakville coach.
COMPETITIVE 4 PROGRAM (SELECT) – by invitation
COMP 4 (Select Comp)
Skaters in this program will participate in a minimum of 2 - Comp 4 Programs (packages) per week, which include on- ice and-off ice instruction, as well as additional sessions to compliment the training requirements at this level. On ice classes may include group lesson time as well as individual skating time for private lessons and program run throughs. Off ice classes will be designed under the direction of Meagan Duhamel. World Champion and Olympic medalist, Meagan combines her knowledge, passion and experience to create a comprehensive off ice training to the competitive program. Activities will include fitness, strength and condition, flexibility, dance and other classes. Skaters at this level should be training a minimum of 15 hours per week.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Skaters landing double axel and higher
Skaters must skate on a minimum of 2 - Comp 4 programs (packages) a week as well as additional training sessions. Skaters should be training 12 - 15 hours per week
Skaters must compete in the 2025 Skate Ontario Sectional Series or Skaters competing Internationally
Skaters must participate in the off ice program
Skaters must demonstrate the ability to keep up with the speed of the session and the required skating skills
Skaters may be invited by a Competitive Director or the Executive Director
To be eligible for competitive programs, skaters must have a Skate Oakville coach.
COMPETITIVE 3 PROGRAM (ELITE) – by invitation
COMP 3 (Elite Competitive)
Skaters in this program will participate in 2 - Comp 3 programs (packages) per week, additional competitive freeskate sessions and the off ice program. On ice classes may include group lesson time as well as individual skating time for private lessons and program run throughs. Off ice classes will be designed under the direction of Meagan Duhamel. World Champion and Olympic medalist, Meagan combines her knowledge, passion and experience to create a comprehensive off ice training to the competitive program. Activities will include fitness, strength and condition, flexibility, dance and other classes. Skaters at this level should be training a minimum of 10 hours per week.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Four different double jumps - performed with consistency and fully rotated
Skaters must skate on a minimum of 2 - Comp 3 programs (packages) a week as well as additional training sessions. Skaters competing at Juvenile or Higher in the 2024-25 season in the Skate Ontario Provincial Series
Skater must participate in the off ice program
Skaters must demonstrate the ability to keep up with the speed of the session and the required skating skills
Skaters may be invited by a Competitive Director or the Executive Director

COMPETITIVE 2 PROGRAM (ADVANCED COMPETITIVE)– by invitation
COMP 2 (Advanced Program)
Skaters in this program will participate in at least 2 - Comp 2 programs (packages) per week, additional freeskate sessions and the off ice program. On ice classes may include group lesson time as well as individual skating time for private lessons and program run throughs. Off ice classes will be designed under the direction of Meagan Duhamel. World Champion and Olympic medalist, Meagan combines her knowledge, passion and experience to create a comprehensive off ice training to the competitive program. Activities will include fitness, strength and condition, flexibility, dance and other classes. Skaters at this level should be training a minimum of 8 hours per week.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Skaters landing an axel with consistency and fully rotated and working on all double jumps
Skaters must skate on a minimum of 2 - Comp 2 programs (packages) a week as well as additional training sessions. For skaters competing STAR 4 or higher
Skating in the summer program for a minimum of 2 weeks
Skaters must compete in a minimum of 2 competitions a year.
Skaters must demonstrate the ability to keep up with the speed of the session and the required skating skills
Skaters may be invited by a Competitive Director

COMPETITIVE 1 (JUNIOR ACADEMY/FUTURE STARS) – by invitation
Comp 1 & Future STARS
The Comp 1 & Future STARS Program is offered 4 days per week. Program sessions include on and off ice instruction. All sessions will be group coaching by members of our competitive coaching team. Off ice classes will include off ice fitness , off ice jumps and other activities that will enhance the skater's training. Besides these training days, skaters are expected to be participating in other sessions to complement their development. Skaters in this program should be skating a minimum of 3 days per week.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Junior Academy Skaters should be under 8 years of age
Skaters must skate on a minimum of 2 - Comp 1 programs (packages) a week as well as additional training sessions. Landing all single jumps and starting to work on axels
Must be skating on at least 1 other STAR session
Future STARS Skaters should be under 6 years of age
Skaters must skate a minimum of 2 days per week
This session will have a limited number of participants and is by invitation only
Skaters must attend a Future STARS assessment day and be invited by the Competitive Director.
